Care Following Tooth Extraction

Post-Operative Care Following Tooth Extraction

Blood Clot Formation: It is vital for a blood clot to form to initiate the healing process and stop the bleeding. Bite down on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after your appointment. If necessary, repeat this process several times to stop the bleeding.

Protecting the Blood Clot: Once the blood clot forms, avoid activities that might disturb it, such as vigorous rinsing, using straws, smoking, drinking alcohol, or brushing teeth near the extraction site for 72 hours.

Cold Compress: To minimize swelling, apply an ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas or corn to the affected area.

Medication: Take prescribed pain medications as directed. If the medication doesn’t seem effective, contact our office at (714) 515-6364.

Hydration: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.

Food: On the day of the extraction, stick to nutritious, soft foods. Resume your normal diet once you feel comfortable.

Routine: Resume your regular dental routine, including brushing and flossing at least once a day, 24 hours after the procedure to foster speedy healing and maintain oral freshness.

General Guidance: You should be able to return to your normal activities after a few days.

Emergency Contact: If you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain, prolonged swelling, or have a reaction to the medication, contact us immediately at (714) 515-6364.
